H. Scott Rives
Scott Rives is a graduate of Woodward High School in Woodward, OK. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (2002). While attending ULM, he played French horn in a variety of the college ensembles, and also the Monroe Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Rives has had the privilege to study with Dr. Rebecca Dodson-Webster, Mr. Steven Pederson, Dr. Derle Long, and Mr. Jack White.
Upon graduating, Mr. Rives served one year as the assistant band director at Ouachita Parish High School and Ouachita Parish Junior High in Monroe, LA. Scott moved to Mesquite, TX in 2003 to become the Associate Director of Bands at Dr. John D. Horn High School (JHHS). Prior to his arrival at North Mesquite, Mr. Rives served for twelve years at JHHS where his bands earned consistent University Interscholastic League (UIL) Sweepstakes awards. In addition to his responsibilities at Horn, Mr. Rives taught beginning French Horn and Trumpet at Berry Middle School.
In his first four years at North, he conducted the Wind Symphony and Concert II Band. Under his direction, the Wind Symphony continued its tradition of performing at the highest level, and earning consecutive UIL Sweepstakes awards. The Concert II Band was very successful in winning multiple awards at the Peak Festival – Frisco. In his second year, the Concert II Band began competing the Region 3 Concert and Sight Reading contest as the only fifth concert band from the Region competing in the contest. The band had much success in their concert performances, and now continues building a tradition of success and growth.
Mr. Rives was appointed the Big Blue Band Head Director in 2019.
Mr. Rives received his Master of Education-Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2010. Mr. Rives lives in Rockwall, TX with his two children Addison and Holden. Scott is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association.
