Ben Elwell joined the North Mesquite HS Band Staff in 2021.

Mr. Elwell began his band career growing up in Frisco, TX. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas where he studied French Horn under Dr. William Scharnberg, Terry Reynolds, and Mathew Croft. While at UNT, Mr. Elwell also served as the Lead Field Technician for the Green Brigade Marching Band, and performed with the UNT Brass Band, Concert Choir, and the North Texas Funky Fresh Basketball Band.

In the marching arts, Mr. Elwell toured with The Cadets drum and bugle corps for the 2016 season. He also worked as a field tech for multiple schools across the DFW area, which included two trips to the UIL State Marching Contest Finals with the Wakeland HS Band. 

Mr. Elwell began his band directing career in 2019 as the Assistant Band Director for Coronado High School in Lubbock, TX where he conducted the Symphonic Band, taught marching fundamentals, and assisted with the feeder middle school bands.

Mr. Elwell currently lives in Dallas, TX, and is a proud member of the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association, and is an alumni of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia national music fraternity.
